LOWCUT [DK]

For you vinyl fetishists, this one’s a must: Limited to 500 cps on white vinyl with inserts and complimentary cd version of the album. That’s how you get people to buy your records.Montreal on Fire come from the city of the same name in Southern France, but in sound and principles they’re definitely also related to the Constellation label from the better known Québécois  capital, to which I have no objections. Over the past years, I’ve heard a few records from Southern France and the Basque Country that have the same sound as this one, like [lo:muêso] (LowCut review) and Lisabö (LowCut review), I don’t know if that actually accounts for some kind of emo/post-hardcore scene or if it’s just a coincidence, but I totally love this stuff. Montreal on Fire have members from I Pilot Dæmon (LowCut review) , but their sound is a lot less abrasive. The 8 songs on this album are epic and over-sensitive, and the Robert Smith vocals are almost too much to bear, but at least they’re not faking it: They wear their hearts on their sleeves, but they do it with style and distorted guitars. If you’re gonna be emo anyway, you should be it the Montreal on Fire way.
